This account is like many tabloid accounts of the late Cancetto Farmica, who was killed April 28, 1911.

He was brought - still alive from McColl, NC - to the James Hospital in Laurinburg where he died. My grandfather, Malcolm John McDougald, and his brother, Daniel Archibald McDougald, were called to take possession of the body. M. J. McDougald embalmed him, and waited on Vincinzzio Farmica to arrive to make arrangement through and interpreter. Some weeks or months later a letter arrived from hs family in Italy asking that the body be returned to Italy for burial, but no funds were included and requests for such were never answered.

In 1920, Vincinzzio Farmica died in Connecticut, and the carnival asked us to submit a bill to his estate. The bill from the funeral home was $112 and Dr. James also submitted his bill for $200. Neither received any payment.

Dan McDougald died in 1928 and John McDougald died in 1955, leaving the business and body to John's son and daughter.

Cancetto Farmica was buried in Hillside Cemetery in Laurinburg on September 30, 1972.
