Interesting stuff. I hope this isn't a reflection on my school days, but I learned more about Richmond County from this one short article than I did in all the
years I attended school in Hamlet. And an unemployment rate of just
2.6 percent boggles the mind.

Agree completely Bruce. Very interesting stuff.
But I have a question. I know where most of the 'other smaller communities' are located. But there are three that I am not familiar with. Where are/was Mangum, X-Way, and Midway located?

Mangum is located on Grassy Island Road out of Ellerbe past Mountain Creek where the Capels lived.
Midway is located on the south side of Hwy. 74 in West Rockingham. Midway Rd.
X-Way is located outside of Norman as well as Pekin.

I see on the map Hwy77 now 177, I can remember when it was77, back in the early '50's and when they built the bypass around the North Yard and Longwood Park
